  4. 1. What is Tabi?
  5. ----------------
  6. Tables in HTML files become more and more important
  7. these days but creating a good and colourful table
  8. means a lot of work. These times are over - Tabi
  9. does the work for you. Tabi is a converter for ASCII
  10. tables which use commas, semicolons or tabulators as
  11. seperators. It's not just a pure conversion - you can
  12. also change the background colour, text colour, different
  13. font styles & size and the align of each cell. There
  14. is also the option to define a cell as a link to another
  15. page. No HTML commands are needed for the work with Tabi -
  16. you create & save a table in your favourite spreadsheet
  17. and Tabi generates the HTML code. 
  18. Finally, Tabi allows to give your table a heading. The
  19. border of the table can also be changed.

  21. 2. Files
  22. ----------
  23. Tabi may be copied freely with the these files:
  24.   * TABI.PRG      Main program
  25.   * TABI.RSC      Resource file (German/English language) 
  26.   * TABI.TXT      German manual
  27.   * TABI_ENG.TXT  The file you're reading now.
  28.  
  29. One file is optional:
  30.   * TABI.INF    Always saved when you change the language.
  31.  
  32. 3. That's required:
  33. -------------------
  34. An Atari computer - this program may run on emulators
  35. but I refuse to make any corrections that may be required
  36. to run this program on MagicPC/Mac and all the others.
  37. No C64, PC or Amiga programer tries to make programs
  38. emulator compatible, so why should I?

  40. You need a spreadsheet program that can save the table in
  41. ASCII format (e.g. Atari Works). Tabi can only read
  42. ASCII tables so all styles wil be lost - just the pure
  43. content of the tables remains.
  44. An Internet browser is required to show your tables. Only
  45. Netscape 3.0 supports all of Tabi features (maybe also CAB
  46. 2.0). Webspace needs some updates to show the tables 
  47. correctly.

  49. 4. Start the program!
  50. ---------------------
  51. Double-click on TABI.PRG or rename it to TABI.ACC and
  52. put it on your boot drive. The program itself runs
  53. in every resolution - even ST middle. It can also run
  54. with virtual screens because there is no resultion
  55. detection in Tabi.
  56. The best resolution for Tabi is 640*480 and 16 colours.

  58. 5. Limitations
  59. --------------
  60. - Tabi won't accept commas as contents in a cell in a file 
  61.   where commas are used as seperators. It doesn't
  62.   matter if you haven't understand this sentence -
  63.   just use tabulators as seperators and there won't be any
  64.   problems with Tabi!
  65. - Tabi can't put cells together - this would be too difficult
  66.   to program.

  68. 6. An advice...
  69. ---------------
  70. There are so many options and features of HTML 3 tables
  71. but you shouldn't exaggerate using them. A good layout
  72. is easier to read and requires not so much server space
  73. and download time.

  75. 7. Future versions
  76. ------------------
  77. None, maybe other languages, but I won't do any tranlations
  78. because my French is not very good...

  87.   After you have created your page you may change some 
  88.   things. HTML-Help can convert the special chars (important
  89.   for pages that are not written in English) and can
  90.   show you the content of your HTML page.
